Falcon Road Underpass
Marine,Utilities

Falcon Road Underpass was a complex project, being a highways tunnel underneath railway lines.  A temporary illuminated pedestrian tunnel/walkway was erected to ensure the safety of pedestrians during works, with one footway remaining open for continuous public access.  The protective pedestrian tunnel was installed to shield pedestrians from potential falling debris or overspray.

Scope of works comprised (Starting at Grant Road end of the bridge):
Bridge 1 – All steel surfaces including external parapet, girders, and deck plates to be high pressure washed to remove loose flaking and unadhered paint (area at bridge interface to be hand washed to prevent water spray encroaching the live rail above).  Prepare remaining surfaces to surface standard ST3.  Apply new protective treatment NR specification XM92 M24. 1 colour to the parapet and 1 colour to the soffit steel work. Apply anti-graffiti coating to parapet.
Bridge 2 – Concrete soffit to be pressure washed to remove dirt and traffic film build up.  Apply concrete sealer and 2 coats of masonry paint to specified colour.
Bridge 3 – All steel surfaces including main girders and parapet panels to be high pressure washed to remove loose flaking and unadhered paint.  Prepare remaining surfaces to surface standard ST3.  Apply new protective treatment NR specification XM92 M24. 1 colour to the soffit steel work.  Masonry/brick jack arches to be pressure washed to remove dirt and traffic film build up.  (Area at bridge interface between 3 and 4 to be hand washed to prevent water spray encroaching the live rail above).
Bridge 4 All steel surfaces including external parapet and main girders to be high pressure washed to remove loose flaking and unadhered paint.  Prepare remaining surfaces to surface standard ST3.  Apply new protective treatment NR specification XM92 M24. 1 colour to the parapet and 1 colour to the soffit steel work. Apply anti-graffiti coating to parapet.  Concrete soffit to be pressure washed to remove dirt and traffic film build up.  Apply concrete sealer and 2 coats of masonry paint to specified colour.
Painting Colours – Soffit to be one colour.  Outer parapets to be one colour, differing colours at each end of the bridge.  3 different colours in total.
