We are committed to the prevention of pollution, to minimising the impact of our operations on the local, regional and global environment and to continual improvement of our IMS. Our IMS provides the framework for setting and reviewing our environmental objectives and targets on an annual basis or earlier if there are procedure or legislation changes.
Our environmental policy is documented, implemented and maintained. It is displayed on Company notice boards, communicated to all persons working for or on behalf of the Company, available to customers and made readily available to other interested parties, including the public, from our web site at www.shutdownmaintenanceservices.co.uk
We include environmental issues in Company training programmes and toolbox talks and encourage the implementation by all Company employees of sound environmental practices.
The Company recognises that its activities have environmental implications and is committed to continual improvement of its environmental performance through training and development of employees, through its customers and suppliers and by maintaining a culture of continual improvement in environmental protection throughout our Company. We actively seek to use environmentally safe and sustainable energy sources to meet our needs wherever possible.
The framework for setting and reviewing objectives and targets is established within our environmental procedures, as is the framework for assessment of our aspects and impacts and the evaluation of the significance of our environmental impacts.
Significant aspects are considered and the relevant environmental regulations, laws, codes of practice and other requirements relevant to our environmental aspects are detailed within our regulatory register and assessed by an evaluation of compliance.
Our objectives, based on our significant aspects, are to reduce environmental incidents, vehicle fuel use, conserve water, wood, paper, waste, improve recycling and our carbon footprint. These objectives are measured and recorded in our environmental reduction target plan. Within the plan, we also record achievements of external audit scores.
We aim to improve our environmental performance through efficient use and careful planning, while still providing a safe and comfortable working environment. We minimise waste, especially hazardous waste, in all our operations and dispose of all waste through safe and responsible methods. We do our best to ensure that any products used or derived from wildlife, such as timber and plants, are from sustainable sources and comply with EU and international trading rules. We work with our suppliers to try and reduce the environmental impact of their products and services through a quality purchasing policy. We seek to realise the dual benefits of reduced fuel consumption and lower exhaust emissions.
This policy is reviewed by the general manager within one year of each revision date.
